As a free culture advocate, I use free software wherever possible. The free fonts used in this blog were made available via Google Fonts.
The main body of the text uses Dave Crossland’s Cantarell font, the same font selected to represent computer typeface display in the print book.
The days of the week subtitles are rendered in Toshi Omagari‘s Tangarine font, just as they are in the book.
I chose the Merriweather font designed by Eben Sorkin for the scene numbers, not because it’s the name of a favorite hobbit, but because it was the only Google Font with relaxed numbering.
The Georg Duffner‘s EB Garamond font was employed for the title quotation.
Finally, JosefinSans for the sans serif scene titles as well as the playscript.
Cantarell, Tangarine, JosefinSans, Merriweather and the EB Garamond fonts are released under the
SIL Open Font License (OFL) version 1.1
This blog uses free blogging software created by WordPress.org which is released under the GNU GENERAL PUBLIC LICENSE version 2, as is Mel Pedley’s fabulous ZenLite Theme distributed by Quirm.net.
Since I was unable to find any theme designed for online serialization, ZenLite seemed the closest fit. Because it is released under the GPL, I was free to customize it andcreate a derivative child theme, although I doubt I would have managed hald so well without the Quirm.net support forums. To date the only way I have been able to manage to get non-Google Fonts into my blog is as image files. Which is how I’ve been able to use the Libreleft and Inconstant Moon type faces.
The Libreleft logo type face text was modified from Manfred Klein’s Gotica Bastard font, downloaded from dafont, and released under a very liberal charityware license.
The Rebel Caps title font was designed by Jay Batchelor who released it freely via dafont.
